Hi there,

I recently answered a similar question here.

Spaces is built with Ceph, just like block storage. As we describe in our blog post on why we chose Ceph:

Ceph is built for redundancy, and we carefully ensure that the loss of a single drive, server, or even an entire data center rack does not compromise data integrity or availability.

Ceph gracefully heals itself when individual components fail, ensuring continuity of service with uncompromised data protection. Additionally, we use sophisticated monitoring systems built around tools including Icinga, Prometheus, and our own open-source ceph_exporter. These help us respond immediately to any issues with our Ceph infrastructure to ensure continuous availability.

Ceph is also compatible with a large subset of the S3 RESTful API, which allows you to use many familiar tools and commands.

Also as Sri mentioned in that thread, you can use our product called Snapshooter which helps you in dealing with Spaces backup:

Hope that this helps!

Best,

Bobby

Spaces is very reliable, but it’s always a good idea to back things up. Snapshooter (https://snapshooter.com/) and Flexify (https://flexify.io/) both have the ability to replicate data to another bucket in another region on a scheduled basis. You can also run free a tool like rclone (https://rclone.org/) paired with a cron job to copy files to another bucket in another region on a regular schedule.

What you could do is to use the s3cmd tool to backup your Spaces content.

The s3cmd tool has the option --recursive that will allow you to download an entire bucket locally.

For more information on s3cmd you could take a look at the documentation here:
