How to expand existing droplet storage for same drive.

Posted on February 28, 2022

The explanation of how to add block storage says the process adds a new “drive”. But I want to expand an existing droplet’s storage (currently 25GB) to 50GB - on the same drive. I’m running InfluxDB and don’t see how it will work with a separate block storage (volume) drive. Suggestions?

Hello,

In case you want to expand your Droplet’s storage itself, what you could do is rather than adding a block storage and mounting it to a specific directory, you could upgrade the Droplet itself.

You can follow the steps on how to do that here:

https://docs.digitalocean.com/products/droplets/how-to/resize/#resizing-droplets

Hope that this helps!

Best,

Bobby

Hi @MichaelLavelle,

What I understand is that you want to upgrade your Disk space. This is the normal process of upgrading a Droplet as well.

I see @Bobby Iliev has provided you with the resizing-droplets page. I’ll recommend you to check it out.

One other thing which I always recommend people to do before following the resize-droplets docs is to create a snapshot just in case:
