Currently I have a droplet with block storage. The block storage is used to persist data. I’m wondering if its possible for functions to persist data without using external DB server. Thanks for any responses.

Unfortunately it is not possible to connect Volumes Block Storage to a function. Depending on your use case, Spaces Object Storage may be a good option. You can see code examples here: https://docs.digitalocean.com/products/spaces/reference/s3-sdk-examples/
