Is there any way to retrieve a droplet from an account that was closed?
There isn’t technically a “deleted” state for an account on DigitalOcean. An account can be deactivated or it can be deactivated and purged. A purged account also has all personal details removed from it (we store a 1 way hash of the email address and other details to prevent fraud).
In either case, deactivating an account kicks off a process to delete any content still existing on our systems. Snapshots and backup images may survive for a short window of time but usually not for more than 24 hours.
Since it is not possible to deactivate an account with active droplets you would have had to have deleted your droplet(s) prior to deactivating the account. Deleted droplets cannot be recovered if you do not have a backup or snapshot image available
