Heya,

If you’re asking how to change the IP address of your Virtual Private Server (VPS) on DigitalOcean, here’s what you need to understand:

DigitalOcean Droplets (VPS) come with a static IP address. Once a Droplet is created, its IP address remains with it until the Droplet is destroyed. You cannot manually change the IP address of an existing Droplet.

Hello there,

This is a question that pops up occasionally in the community.

All Droplets come with static IP addresses which can not be changed. But what you could do instead is:

  • Take a snapshot of your Droplet
  • Then create a new Droplet based on that snapshot
  • That way the new Droplet will have the same content as the old one but it will have a new IP address as well.

For more information you can check out the documentation here:

https://docs.digitalocean.com/support/how-do-i-clone-or-make-a-copy-of-a-droplet/

Best,

Bobby
