Question

How to stop a managed database cluster in Digital ocean console?

Hello Team,

I would like to know if there is a way to stop the cluster or the service to test its functionality. While I noticed the option to destroy the database cluster, my intention is to stop the database cluster temporarily rather than destroy it. Could you please confirm if this is possible?

Hi Abhishek! 👋

I don’t think that the DigitalOcean Managed Databases currently have an option to stop or pause a cluster temporarily.

The only available actions are to resize, scale, or destroy the cluster. If you need to test functionality while reducing costs, here are a couple of options:

  1. You can take a snapshot of the database, destroy the cluster, and then restore it later when needed. This way you can recreate the cluster with the same data.
  2. Temporarily resize the cluster to a smaller size to reduce costs during your testing period.

If restarting the database is critical for your use case, you might want to reach out to the DigitalOcean support team to check if they could do this for you: https://do.co/support

Hope this helps!
