I purchased domain from Godaddy, hosting package for the domain from Hostgator. All subdomians are running on DO. Now I need to update my DNS record in Hostgator. I need to know the steps to be followed to update the DNS record.

You need to update the DNS records from where your active DNS zone. If you’re using Hostgator’s nameservers for your domain name, then you’ll need to make the DNS change from their control panel.
If you’re using GoDaddy’s nameservers you’ll need to make the DNS changes from their control panel. Keep in mind that you only need to make the change from where you control the DNS. As mentioned you can double check your domain name’s namservers and this will let you know from where you need to make the DNS changes.
If you want to point a subdomain to DigitalOcean you need to create an A record for the subdomain name point it to the IP address of your DigitalOcean’s droplet/server.
