Is mandatory to configure dns in Digital Ocean?

Posted on September 1, 2016

I have my domain in Namecheap and I configure my own dns there e.g ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com. I point my domain to my VPS ip adress, and I configure too in my VPS cpanel my own dns e.g ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com. Should I configure DigitalOcean DNs too? My ns1 point to my droplet public ip and ns2 point to a floating ip adress that a set up to my droplet But steel it do not works.

If you are hosting DNS services on your droplets themselves there would be no reason to use the DO DNS servers. Our DNS services are offered free of charge as a convenience but are absolutely not required.

When setting up your new nameservers did you register the nameservers with namecheap (this does not mean creating NS records, nameservers must be specially registered with your domain registrar outside your zone file)?
