Kafka requires Zookeeper, but the 'Installing Kafka' tutorial doesn't install Zookeeper. Then Kafka magically works anyway? What? How?
I’m new to Ubuntu, Kafka, and Zookeeper, and this has me puzzled.
From everything I’ve read, Zookeeper is part and parcel to Kafka. However, the tutorial here (https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-install-apache-kafka-on-ubuntu-18-04) doesn’t install Zookeeper before installing Kafka. And what’s even crazier is that Kafka works per the tests within the tutorial.
How can this be? What am I missing? Is this some special case and I need to install Zookeeper at this point, or was Zookeeper silently installed somehow? I see Zookeeper-related services in /usr/share that were not mentioned in the tutorial, so that suggests Kafka installed some aspects of Zookeeper. Maybe it installs a barebones version?
Thanks in advance! Any help would be greatly appreciated. I’m an idiot beginner to all this, so apologies if this is all quite stupid.
