New Ubuntu 16.04 Kernel not in the dropdown list

Posted on April 1, 2017

Hi,

I just upgraded from Ubuntu 14.04 to 16.04 (used this article as help https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-upgrade-ubuntu-12-04-lts-to-ubuntu-14-04-lts) and was about to upgrade my kernel to the new one downloaded during the process. My current Kernel is 3.13.0-57-generic and I want to switch to the one downloaded which is 4.4.0-71-generic. I see the kernel in my terminal when typing ls /lib/modules, however, it is not showing up in the Droplet Kernel dropdown list in the DO control panel.

btw. it’s really annoying to be forced to post at least one tag when asking a question, when there is nothing like “kernel” “ubuntu” or “upgrade”, pls change that to the behaviour of stackoverflow.

Thanks!

Thanks, but I solved it by creating a brand new droplet with 16.04 LAMP Stack which works great!

This Kernel upgrade method is outdated. You should switch to internal managed kernel then upgrade it from your Droplet. This tutorial could help you upgrade it.
