So I am migrating from AWS, and one thing I cannot figure out is a replacement for Amazon’s Elastic IP. In AWS, you reserve an elastic IP and point it towards whatever instance you’d like. Then you can point your DNS record to that elastic IP safely, knowing that if you have issues with that instance and need to point the elastic IP to a new instance, you can do so without having to update your DNS record. However, as far as I can tell, Digital Ocean doesn’t have something like this… right? As far as I’ve found, you have to destroy your instance first and then hope the next instance created uses the same IP. If so, this seems like a serious gamble, not to mention it forces downtime in between switching instances that you wouldn’t have at AWS. I seriously hope that I’m wrong, as I have very much enjoyed Digital Ocean thus far.

Digital Ocean does not have anything like that at present. It is the main reason I haven’t moved any production services onto DO that need HA.
The IP is reserved to your account for a short time, you can also ask support to hold it when destroying and deploying new droplets.
