I have two apps setup for my shopping cart application. One for the backend of my application the other for the frontend. Is it possible to setup something like Postfix or Nodemailer on DO Apps? Or will I need a Droplet?

Sending email from droplets is restricted by default as of June 22, 2022 and is not possible from AppPlatform. However sending email via API is available from partners’ services that you can find in the Marketplace or other 3rd party services.
Hello @brudolph
You can send emails, but due to spam email issues, we block SMTP traffic on port 25. However, this is not possible on new accounts and droplets.
We support connecting to SMTP servers on ports 465 and 587 for authenticated mail sending. We highly recommend using a service such as MailGun or SendGrid for emails within your app.
