I’m looking to update my managed database mysql instance to 8.4 but can only see 8.0 still. As this has been flagged as end of life, it is important to keep up to date with the latest LTS versions of software. Not keeping managed services up to date defeats the intention of having them managed in the first place.
Do we have a timeframe for when we can see 8.4 made available? For timing reference: https://endoflife.date/mysql

Hi there,
That’s a fair question. DigitalOcean generally rolls out new major or LTS database versions only after they’re confident they’re production-ready in a managed context. While there isn’t a public ETA for MySQL 8.4 yet, support for 8.0 will continue until a supported upgrade path is available.
If this is time-critical, the best option for now is to reach out to DigitalOcean support so they can share any internal timelines or guidance. They’re usually happy to clarify what’s coming next and how long current versions will remain supported.
I’ve also shared your feedback with the team as well.
Heya,
Right now DigitalOcean only supports Managed MySQL 8.0, and you can’t create or upgrade to 8.4 yet. 8.4 is already out and is the next LTS from Oracle, but there’s no public ETA from DO for when it will be offered as a managed option. People have opened feature requests for it, but so far it hasn’t been added to the product.
If MySQL 8.4 support is critical for your application, the common workaround is to host it yourself on a Droplet or use a provider that already offers 8.4 (or use a different managed DB service in the meantime).
