UMASK for specific User

Posted on April 29, 2021

I have RHEL box and recently created a custom file in /etc/profile.d to set umask as 0002 for a specific user. When logged in with that specific user, umask has reflected correctly as expected.

However when created a SAS Data set using SAS Programming Runtime Environment(SPRE) in Viya while logged in as that specific user, the permission being reflected are 0022.

Any one help me understand what could have happened to override the initial set umask 0002 to 0022 ?

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

You might have to change the umask in a couple more files as well. For example, the default bash umask for the non-login shell might be different.

Open the following file:

vim /etc/bashrc

And search for umask, it should be defined in two places. Adjust the value accordingly.

You can do the same with the /etc/profile file too.

Hope that this helps. Best, Bobby
