Using my VPS to change my ip

Posted on October 2, 2016

Im on an ubuntu 16.04 VPS.

I followed this tutorial, expecting it to allow me to connect to the internet using PPTP, but have my VPS Ip.

https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-setup-your-own-vpn-with-pptp

I stopped on step 4. It seemed like I was done for my purpouse.

I tried connecting, and I was sucessful, but I have no internet access. I ran “tail -f /var/log/syslog”

I saw a succesful connection from my Ip.

This is not the first tutorial I’ve tried, and Im kinda of getting frustrated. I always either can’t download a file, or have some other problem.

If you could help me, or point me to the direction of a right tutorial to achieve my goal “allow me to connect to the internet using PPTP, but have my VPS Ip.” I would be very thankful.

Thanks for reading.

For just getting started, unless you have a specific need for pptp I would recommend going with OpenVPN. We even provide a user-data script that can be pasted into the droplet creation page and automate the setup.
