How to connect to managed database from App Platform using private endpoints?

Posted on April 19, 2024

I am trying to connect to managed database from App Platform using private endpoint but it’s failing. App is already in trusted sources. Droplet is able to access but app platform is not. Everything is in same region as well.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi there,

Indeed, apps deployed on App Platform are not connected to VPC networks.

All connections from apps to other services running on DigitalOcean occur over the public network, including connections between apps and DigitalOcean Managed Databases.

This is listed under the network limitations here:

https://docs.digitalocean.com/products/app-platform/details/limits/

What I could suggest is to use the public endpoint with trusted sources enabled.

Best,

Bobby

Hi there,

A quick update here in case it helps, VPC support for App Platform apps in FRA, NYC, and TOR is now in public preview. This feature lets you connect your App Platform apps to other VPC-enabled resources, like Managed Databases, Droplets, or Kubernetes clusters, over a private VPC network.

To enable it, contact support, and for setup instructions, check out the guide here: https://docs.digitalocean.com/products/app-platform/how-to/enable-vpc/
