While you have changed the setting for your SSH service the console in the control panel is not affected by this. In the control panel, select your droplet and click on Access. You will then be able to open the console in your browser and log in with your existing root password. Because your droplet views the console as a local keyboard and display it is not affected by changes to your ssh settings.
