So the worst of the worst happened and the bill wasn’t paid by my School’s admin staff. The site I need to get back up is campusflora.sydneybiology.org I have made a new project(?) so that at least people see something when they navigate to the site.
I am desperate. I have an archive of a previous release but don’t know how to start to make a droplet(?)… The site is based on rubyonrails.

FYI, I am very good with all things Botanical - ok technically - I think I might just about be able to get this site (or a previous version of it) back up with the generosity of the development community.

If you have an archive that’s great, that means you only need a droplet to actually get to your desired situation. I’ll recommend using an Ubuntu droplet. Additionally, you’ll need to install NodeJS at the very least.
Luckily, there are good DigitalOcean articles on how to do so. The first thing you need to do is ready your droplet. The article you need follow is https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/initial-server-setup-with-ubuntu-18-04
Once you have finished the article, you can continue with installing NodeJS. For that,you’ll need to follow this article https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-install-node-js-on-ubuntu-18-04#installing-using-a-ppa
Lastly, you need to install Ruby on Rails in order to use your application. You can follow this article to do so, again DigitalOcean one - https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-install-ruby-on-rails-with-rbenv-on-ubuntu-18-04
Once you have followed the mentioned articles, you can go ahead and unpack your archive and configure it to work on the droplet.
That’s it, you are ready to go!
