Hi,

I have a website (www.domain.com) hosted on DO App platform. We also have a small merch shop that’s hosted on Wix (owners idea, not mine) We now want to have the wix page as a subdomain. How do I set this up? I want the URL as follows: some-subdomain.domain.com. I can only find tutorials on how to either fully set up the DNS settings over at Wix or to set up the full domain as the wix page.

Hi there,

Yes, this should be achievable by adding a CNAME record for your subdomain name to point to your Wix shop page.

Note that after you make the DNS change it might take up to 24 hours for the DNS cache to clear over the Globe before you would be able to see the new DNS records.

Before adjusting your DNS settings on DigitalOcean, you should prepare your Wix site to be associated with the desired subdomain:

  1. Log in to your Wix account.
  2. Click on Settings.
  3. Navigate to Domains under Site settings.
  4. Click on Connect a domain you already own.
  5. Enter the subdomain (e.g., shop.domain.com).
  6. Wix will give you the necessary DNS records that you need to add to your domain provider. Note them down.

Hope that this helps!

Best,

Bobby

Heya,

You can achieve this by adding a CNAME DNS record for your subdomain that points to your Wix shop.

Wix Settings:

  • Log into your Wix account.
  • Go to the “Domains” page.
  • Click on “Connect a domain you already own”.
  • Choose the site you want to connect to this domain.
  • Enter your subdomain (e.g., some-subdomain.domain.com).
  • Follow the on-screen instructions until Wix provides you with a CNAME record or some other DNS records. Take note of these.

Now whereever you manage your DNS records, go there and create the CNAME record for your subdomain. If you are using DigitalOcean,

DigitalOcean Settings:

  • Log into your DigitalOcean account.
  • Navigate to the “Networking” tab.
  • Find the domain you’re working with (domain.com) and click on it.
  • In the DNS management section, click on “Add Record”.
  • If Wix provided you with a CNAME record:
    • Choose CNAME from the dropdown.
    • Enter the subdomain part (some-subdomain) in the “Enter Name” field.
    • Enter the value provided by Wix in the “Enter hostname” field.
  • If Wix provided any other DNS records, add them similarly.
  • Save your changes.
