How can I remove starter domain in App Platform.

Posted on February 25, 2025

I have successfully launched an 11ty static website on the App Platform. I have also added the bennu.site domain that I am using for testing purposes. However, I don’t see any way to get rid of the “starter domain” https://eleventy-demo-app-99l47.ondigitalocean.app/. I do NOT want this starter domain because it will mess with SEO and analytics. Is there any way to remove this? If not, it seems like the App Platform is pretty useless for anything serious…?

I’m taking down the App and moving on to a better use of my time.

Hi there,

You can’t remove the starter domain on DigitalOcean’s App Platform—it’s added by default. The best workaround is to set up redirects from the starter domain to your custom one to prevent SEO and analytics issues.

There’s already a feature request for this on the DigitalOcean Ideas platform—I’d suggest upvoting it to help get it prioritized!

Hi all!

Quick update here, I have been informed that the DigitalOcean team has confirmed that they have started working on this.

You can follow the progress here: https://ideas.digitalocean.com/app-platform/p/disable-starter-domain-app-platform

Or keep an eye on the release notes at: https://docs.digitalocean.com/release-notes/

Thanks again for the suggestion!
