Is there a way to add a custom install script to the App Platform?

Posted on November 26, 2020

I am setting up a DO App Platform service where the source_dir is set to a package in a lerna monorepo. I need to run lerna bootstrap instead of npm install to properly symlink the local packages.

Is there a way to override the install command?

Hello, during app creation, on the 3rd step, you can specify a custom build command. Alternatively if you set a custom build_command for the service or static site in the app specification file. Note that if are using the app specification file, you will have to explicitly apply the app spec to the existing app within App Platform using doctl:

  • Install doctl
  • List your apps and find your app’s UUID: doctl apps list
  • In the directory of your git repo, run: doctl apps update --spec .do/app.yaml APP-UUID. This will kick off a new deployment with the spec changes.

Hope this helps!
