WordPress: I can't get custom post tyle permalinks to work

Posted on May 1, 2014

I can sort of get “pretty permalinks” to work properly but my custom post type entries do not have the appropriate prefix in the URL. In fact they don’t seem to be treated like custom post type entries at all.

To get permalinks working in wordpress you need to enable the mod rewrite in your web server.

mod_write is enabled…and like I said, permalinks sort of work, but not as intended. For example I can create (and view) a “Custom Structure” with an arbitrary prefix for blog post permalinks (e.g. http://example.com/bob/hello-world/). But I can’t view category archives (e.g. http://example.com/topics/uncategorized/)…all I get is a WordPress generated 404 page.

It’s really weird.

Richard,

You need to register a new “taxonomy” for the custom post type. I think this might help you:

http://wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/6098/is-there-a-way-to-use-regular-categories-with-custom-post-types
