Do we need to push the vendor directory to repo inorder for app to require it ?

For custom PHP apps in DO’s App Platform, do we need to upload the vendor directory to the github repo which would then be pulled in into the app platform’s app ?
Or will specifying the package list alone in composer.json be enough for the app platform to automatically install the vendor folders in the app ?

composer installcommand using package version incomposer.jsonandcomposer.lockfiles.
