I’m evaluating a switch to DigitalOcean’s app platform. However, deploying my application seems to take ~10 minutes. Is there any way to speed this up? My expectation is that a deployment should take 1-2 minutes; ~10 minutes will block me from using app platform.

We’re aware that some builds can take a long time—we’re actively working to improve build times. After the initial build of your application, dependencies will be cached and reused in future builds.

Are you consistently seeing slow builds even with the cache? If so, could you please review the build logs and let me know which parts of the build are taking longer than expected?

    Yep.

For the most recent successful build, it looks like it took ~3 minutes to upload the Docker image to the container registry: https://share.getcloudapp.com/YEuQJzWw

Building my app took just under 2 minutes. Of that, it seems like a full minute is npm run prod. It takes 45 seconds locally. I guess switching to Composer 2 will speed up the other side of it.

So maybe it’s mostly the Docker image upload? Is that a known issue?

    • Thanks for the info! I’ll log it in the ticket where we’re tracking this.
Docker upload time varies, it depends on the size of the image - your repo and any dependencies your app installs. But it’s also an area we’re working to improve on.

Composer 2 support should be coming soon, possibly early next week - keep an eye on this page https://www.digitalocean.com/docs/#latest-updates

      • Ok, sounds fine. The deploy slowness is a blocker for me, so I ended up going back to a couple of droplets behind a load balancer. Looking forward to continued updates to App Platform :)
