If this is a new Droplet and there's nothing important on it, you may want to destroy and recreate it. I've ran in to this a few times and that generally resolves the issue. It's been a while since this has happened though. What version of Ubuntu are you deploying? (i.e. 14.04, 16.04, etc)

This is kind of a new droplet, it's 24 days old but I created it from 3 years old snapshot :)
it's Ubuntu 14.04

That may be why :-) (the age, potential change of repository sources)

You can spin up a new Droplet temporarily (same Ubuntu version, of course) and copy the list of repositories from it. You'd simply delete your current sources file (on the droplet you're having issues on) and then create a new one with the more up to date list from the fresh droplet.

The file in question should be:

    /etc/apt/sources.list
