500 error on GitLab droplet

On a fresh GitLab one-click install1 I had the problem of saving admin settings. POST requests to /admin/application_settings were rejected with a 500 error.

This seemed to be an incorrect gitlab-secrets.json because reseting that solved the problem, as described here:



I used the GitLab Enterprise Edition from DO marketplace but haven’t bought an EE key from GitLab.

What else could be of significance:

  • Initially I provisioned the droplet with only 2G of RAM.
  • Changed the hostname


That’s interesting, I will try to recreate that.

Were you using the GitLab Enterprise Edition?
