Question

Able to access via SSH but not Filezilla

Posted January 13, 2015 8.7k views

I didn’t change anything on server config recently. Yesterday I was trying to access my file via Filezilla but it returned Connection closed by server with exitcode 127 error code.

I can access via ssh (using iTerm) Do you know what happened?

Ubuntu 14.04 x64, Wordpress running

In Filezilla, choose on the menu Edit->Settings, On the left panel expand to Connection->SFTP. On the right side make sure you have the correct private key file, or add if missing the correct entry.

Using the DO web console, login as root and do ‘tail -f /var/log/auth.log’. Then try to login with Filezilla and note any messages.

  • @mumcuibrahim - I’m not exactly sure if this is related, but your reverse IP lookup for the machine your logging in from is failing (see entry [17612]). What I’m seeing is that you logged in from ‘myIP’ using ssh, and even though it accepted your password, the reverse mapping failed. This could be a firewall configuration on your Mac/PC. If so, then sftp may be failing because of the failure to validate your Mac/PC’s IP address. You may need to open up a support ticket with DO to help you setup your firewall on your Mac/PC to allow reverse IP lookups.
