I need a step by step approach to accessing MySQL from the one-click LAMP droplet installation. It seems to be very difficult doing so

What I could suggest in this case is to use a tool like MySQL Workbench to connect to your MySQL database directly from your computer.

That way you can connect securely to your database over SSH.
