Add a subdomain to a /var/www/ directory alongside a Laravel installation

Posted June 24, 2016 5k views

I have a Droplet w/ the LEMP stack, inside of it is running a Laravel application. This Laravel installation is under the /var/www/laravel folder, but now, we need to install Wordpress for a blog, and it has to be done thru a subdomain (Which is now created in the domain area of the Droplet), this sub domain ( should point to a folder inside /var/www, how do i do this without compromise the integrity of the Laravel app?

Thank you!

You can do this by creating a new server block in a second configuration file that will live in your /etc/nginx/sites-enabled folder. We provide a full guide on this process here. In most cases since both of these require close to the same configuration (as far as PHP support) you may be able to make a copy of the existing file in that directory and simply change the server name and root fields to match your settings for the new site.

Nginx is an incredibly powerful web server and reverse proxy. In this guide, we'll discuss how to set up server blocks on Ubuntu 14.04 in order to server multiple domains from a single server.
