I’m running ubuntu 18.04 droplet to be used as a web server and socks proxy. My setup is simply a Putty configured to have a dynamic tunnel at port 3000 and my browsers are configured to access Socks5 at localhost:3000.
I’d connect to the DO droplet and be able to proxy and use websites banned in my country (which includes freaking reddit).
Worked fine until last week, no idea whatsoever as to the why. I dont remember changing anything except regularly updating Ubuntu and my own computer, which is running Windows 10. There was a major windows update around last week tho.
Error message is simply Proxy refused connection or Proxy error. Not sure how to diagnose it further.

Hey friend,
I don’t know for sure with that setup, but it seems a little non-standard. Have you considered Shadowsocks for a simple proxy server? Check out these quick steps to use it:
