Apache2 + Tomcat7 on Debian7

November 2, 2014 1.1k views

I followed these guides to setup my wordpress:
1 -> https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-install-wordpress-on-debian-7
2 -> https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-install-and-configure-varnish-with-apache-on-ubuntu-12-04--3

What I need is to run both Apache2 and Tomcat7 at the same time. I want wordpress to redirect to JSP files.

After following this guide:
https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-install-and-configure-apache-tomcat-on-a-debian-server

After installing tomcat the next scenarios could happen:

1
apache2 stopped
varnish stopped
tomcat7 started
Result: webpage on IP:8080 works.

2
apache2 started
varnish started
tomcat7 stopped
Result: webpage on IP, wordpress would load but not the CSS, blank page with text only, without style. Neither the links inside the wordpress would load its CSS, not even the login would apply CSS.

3
apache2 started
varnish started
tomcat7 started
Result: Same as scenario 2 but the IP:8080 wont load.

I think the problem is some varnish configuration, but I dont know what to change. Followed the guides exactly.
NOTE: i want varnish in front of apache2, not tomcat7.
