Given that a 7200rpm server drive gets 16-thread IOPS of less than 200, I would say that being more than 25 times faster is pretty good.
It is also not a 60GB SSD simply plugged into a SATA port, it is probably a 512GB SSD plugged into a SAS port. Remember, you still have overhead from virtualization, and it is probably partition shared with several other droplets, so an SSD with 30000 IOPS random write will not get all of it when split over 8 virtual machines.
