AWS Linux image transfer

Hello, I read the article about transferring VPSes from AWS, but it is basically installing the software environment from scratch and then moving the data. It is kinda painful process and I can bet that a lot of non-standard configuration files or custom created file structures will be omitted in the process. So my question is: Is there a way to import any kind of VPS image into DigitalOcean service? I am asking for Ubuntu specifically, but actually any kind of Linux will do. Best regards

    hey mate,

    this is the top result for transfering an image. if you see this it would be awesome if you could edit the post to include the link.

    also, were you able to find an answer to this question? i have a client who insists on AWS despite my persuasion otherwise, so I have to do this as well. cheers.

While I do not know if a particular service will export in the desirable way, we have opened up a path for bringing your own images to DigitalOcean for deployment. You can find more about this announcement on our blog: https://blog.digitalocean.com/custom-images/ Original post: We currently do not support importing images so you will have to transfer your data manually (using rsync or similar programs).

Don't you think that it will be so much easier if there is images management capability for DigitalOcean clients?
Just imagine how easier and painless will be for the new users to grab AWS or Rackspace image and deploy DO droplet based on it!!!

Since I have a lot of experience with Linux virtualization I am wondering if somebody is working on the topic and if I can help to speed the process!

We currently do not support that but it has been suggested a while back.

I need a new, stabler VPS provider fast, and I was 100% ready to go with Digital Ocean until I found out I can’t import an image from my old provider. Guess I’m going with Vultr…
