Best Droplet solution for video streaming

Hi guys, i want create my personal streaming platform using Nginx as RTMP server and my platform (written in Php Laravel and VideoJs) as multiple client.
I want to stream video with FullHD resolution (around 3mbps for single strem) to 300/500 client.
What is the best configuration for doing this?

Hi @Andrea93b,

Unfortunately, the question is impossible to answer. What you are asking is based on a lot of factors like - how heavy is the application, how many external resources it’s using, how good is it optimized, is the droplet optimized, different technologies have different limits, and many many more.

I doubt anyone else will be able to answer you as well. What I always do in such cases is start with the smallest droplet and as soon as I see any high load or the application starts loading a bit slower I go for the upgrade.

Another way to get a somewhat small idea is to check how big is your VPS with your current provider and try a little bit smaller, regarding resources. That way you’ll see if you are reaching the limits on it.

  • Hi, thank you for suggestion.
    My streaming is really simple, basically there are 1 istance of Nginx active on Ubuntu Server, configured to work with RTMP protocol.
    There are also a second Droplet with same configuration but with a Laravel application that provide frontend player.
    I will try some test and maybe add Load Balancer to the configuration for support multiple Droplets

      At first maybe you won’t need a Load Balancer but as soon as the traffic gets higher it will most certainly help.

      Anyway, I like using simple things so in your case using Nginx and then a frontend Laravel app sounds really plain and simple which I like!
