Can I downgrade droplet to older Ubuntu version?

Posted on September 7, 2018

Is it possible to downgrade the Ubuntu version I use on my droplet? A plug-in I am using broke because of this version and I am wondering if I can downgrade without creating a new droplet?

Thanks!

Hey friend!

In theory it can be possible, but in practice this would be too delicate and intricate to have value over building a new droplet. In this case, creating a new droplet would be the best approach.

Hello there,

Downgrading is not recommended and it’s not a straightforward process which can lead to issues on your droplet. If you need an older OS in order to run specific software you can spin up a new droplet from a custom image

However, running an older OS will expose your droplet to a lot of vulnerabilities since the OS will likely have reached EOL and support updates will not be available.
