Can I turn off the VNC daemon on my server?

 • Posted June 18, 2014

I use the cheapest VPS option DO provide running Debian 7.0. I only connect to my server using SSH from my desktop console, also running Debian. Since my VPS has such a small amount of RAM, I would like to turn off the VNC daemon running on the server.

Can I do this? Is this safe to do so? Whats the best way to turn it off and keep it off?

What VNC program did you install? How did you enable it to start on boot? If you used an init script, run:
update-rc.d -f vncserver remove
