Question

Can I use my credit resulted from a promo code to activate my account?

Posted October 8, 2014 7.2k views

I received a promo code which gave me 100$ credit, but I did not finish activating my account. I have yet to add a credit card, but the problem is I don’t own one, so it seems that the only option is to make a one time payment using Paypal.

Do I really need to make this payment, taking into consideration that I already have 100$ on my account?

  • Hello,
I believe you either have to pay the 5$ Paypal if you want to activate your account with the code.
If you have a debit/credit card however, you do not need to pay 5$

You can run to your nearest Walmart, 7-11, Target, etc, and get a prepaid debit card and use that if you want to. I would just say that you should pay the 5$ Paypal because its faster, and plus, since you are already getting a 100$ credit, its very worth it.

  • I just discovered that DO actually puts the upfront $5 PayPal fee towards hosting credit. How nice of them. I feel better now. They should really document that somewhere, I searched multiple DO threads and FAQs and not a single thing was mentioned on that. Glad it’s settled now though.

yes you really need to make a payment

Pay $5 with PayPal and get to use $100 worth of credit? Seems like a steal. :)
