Have you tried connecting via SSH to your droplet? If not then do it. Sometimes the console in the Control Panel might not work properly (personal experience).
How do I connect via SSH?
You need to setup ssh keys.

Linux:

To add your key in an existing VPS you can upload your .pub file (key) via FTP to the folder ~/.ssh/authorized_keys
