I read this article on using DigitalOcean as the provider for Vagrant:
I assume if after installing the digital ocean plug-in you do a “vagrant up” without using “–provider=digital_ocean” that Vagrant will still work using a local VM as it did before installing the plug-in. Since I still have some projects I need to manage with Vagrant using local VM support, is my assumption correct?

Yes, that is correct - you can still use Vagrant as you have before, and just not specify it as a provider.
