I still remember the time when it was easy to just use login and password and easily connect on the FTP to download and upload files. Oh dear!
Unless FTP software was installed to the Droplet, the only way to login is via SFTP by using the root user, or another user that was setup for the purpose of SFTP (which has to be done manually).
Changing your SSH Key from the DigitalOcean control panel won’t change the key on the server. The only time you can set one or more SSH Keys is during initial deployment. Once the server is deployed, those must also be manually added.
You’d need to get in touch with the server owner and ask them to be more specific about their setup. For example, did they use the one-click image that DigitalOcean provides, or did they setup their stack manually?
