CentOS Web Panel Discussion

  • Posted March 1, 2015

Hello everyone,

I’m currently using VestaCP on my Droplets(Ubuntu) but i’m really interest about your opinion and experiences with CentOS CP.

Pros/Cons of CentOS Web Panel ? Is it fast/slow ? How much it affects the server’s resources ? Anything really, even if something that you like or don’t like about it is just personal preference i would be more than happy to know it. For example from a first look at their demo it bugs me how they show those links on the login page (screenshot) in my case i would like to be able to even change the title of the login box or re-brand it(if allowed)…so yeah even small things like that that you like or don’t like.

Also something that is kind of awkward is that they say it’s free but you cannot find any license type on their website(or at least i couldn’t) so yes its free but is it GNU is it BSD or something else ?

Thank you all in advance :)

Hi @NGJ ,

I have try contacting them regarding the license and also asking what can be done regarding the design and the branding…they did not replied anything about the license and also somewhere in their forum when another user asked the reply from them was…“what you mean by license type” :)

The reply to my email was “At the moment we don’t have a re-brand option but we plan to add it with the version 1.0 since this projects is still in the development and we are adding lots of new features.”

P.S. By the way, my professional opinion as a designer, about the video with the models is that it looks too cheap…i’m kind of straight forward regarding design and image/brand communication and i’m not trying to be a douche :) but i have to be honest, it looks like a 5 dollars gig for fiverr.

Any experiences with Sentora panel ? It’s an initiative by some of the developers / team members of Zpanel to keep the project alive.

I’ve been using it a bit the last few weeks on some development servers. It actually seems to have less overhead than WHM/cPanel and as far as I can tell it has all the features.

That said, I agree with the login bug, but it seems to be new code, so that’s to be expected, I think. I’m sure you could skin/theme it manually, but like you said, the license is unclear. There seems type of commercial interest in it, as they obviously paid two models to do a video on their website… and from the first default install I did, it was setup with their own nameservers (still free) as the defaults, so I think they may be using it to try to turn it into some type of paid DNS service.

I really don’t know. My personal experiences with it have been great, but as you point out there do seem to be some questions. That said, I’m installing my second instance of it as we speak.

Hi Stelios,

I have just started looking at CentOS Web Panel myself. So far I’m quite impressed and happy with it. I did find the following page on their website that describes the license.
