Hi serverpeople :)

I did the stupidest thing ever, i changed my passwd file unconsciously and changed my root username. Now it looks like this:

Is there anyway to recover the root user? SSH'ing gives an permission denied right now.

The OS that im running: Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS (GNU/Linux 3.13.0-57-generic x86_64) (LAMPP)

Try the console in your DigitalOcean panel.

  • Thanks for your suggestion, sadly when i try to login with ']root' and my password, the terminal gives me 'login incorrect'.

    • Try logging in with "root". If that doesn't work, try changing the password through the panel.

      • Tried it, used root and the new password. Still it says 'login incorrect'. Logging on using other users works fine though..

        • And none of those users are sudo? If so, open a ticket and ask for recovery.
