Question

Configure nameservers with IP

Ubuntu Email DNS

Hi, I’m trying to configure the nameservers on my domain control panel. I tried:

ns1.digitalocean.com
ns2.digitalocean.com
ns3.digitalocean.com

but when I try to save the changes, the panel ask me for an IP for each dns. I used the droplet IP, and it seems to work, but the google apps email stop working. I have the mx records:

aspmx.l.google.com.
alt1.aspmx.l.google.com.
alt2.aspmx.l.google.com.
alt3.aspmx.l.google.com.
alt4.aspmx.l.google.com.

I have another droplet and it works fine both domain and google mail, but that domain panel doesn’t ask me for any IPs. This one does.

Any ideas?

The IP addresses that you are being asked for are not your droplet IP addresses but the addresses of the nameservers. The following should be what you need:

  • ns1.digitalocean.com 173.245.58.51
  • ns2.digitalocean.com 173.245.59.41
  • ns3.digitalocean.com 198.41.222.173
  • Can you give us an indication on the frequency these ip changes? It seems they change quite often, with a potential for dangerous consequences (as in the google apps email stopping to work for instance).

Hello from 2018. IP addresses are still the same!
