I recently set up a droplet on DO using Ubuntu. I have installed the full LAMP stack and would now like to use this server for collaborative virtual development.
Is it possible to use this server without DNS configuration? I would like to point my hosts file at the IP address of my DO virtual server and access development apps through the browser.
If so, what steps do I need to complete on the server side? Are there special vhost configurations to make on the DO virtual server?
Thanks so much for your help :-)

Best way is to create a sub-domain and point the A-record to this droplet’s IP. For safety, you may choose to protect your server with a .htpasswd security!

You don’t need to setup DNS or anything special on DO, you can just browse to the IP address in the browser or edit your hosts file as you said and make the IP address go to a name of your choice.
