Question
Connecting Plesk to an existing WordPress site
Hi. I’m having some problem setting up Plesk, and suspect that maybe I’m mistaken regarding what Plesk actually does. (I’ve used Plesk a bit, but never set it up.)
I have two droplets, both 1-Click Marketplace apps, both Ubuntu 18.04. Number 1 is a WordPress site with domain DNS managed elsewhere. Number 2 is a separate Plesk droplet. I have a domain setup to be managed in DO for #2.
I’ve run the 1-Click install and retrieved the temporary link to Plesk as described in the free Udemy mini-course provided by DO and Plesk. My intention is to manage my existing WordPress site along with a couple of planned subdomains in the future. After I pull up Plesk via the temporary link and created a login, etc., and clicked “Add Domain”, shouldn’t I be able to enter the domain and IP for my existing WordPress site? In “Webspace settings” on that page, there is a dropdown menu with the IP where Plesk is installed, labeled as “shared”, and another with a domain I don’t recognize labeled “dedicated”, but no opportunity to add my existing WP site.
So is Plesk intended to manage WordPress sites on other domains? The installations I’ve seen do this (I think). Or is intended run alongside WordPress on the same droplet? If so, how do I configure Plesk and WordPress to use different domains?
Any assistance appreciated!
