CoreOS still asking for root password

Posted January 21, 2015 6.8k views

I am a new user. I created an sshkey as the guide suggesteda and I added the public key while I was creating the droplet.

The problem is when I try to connect using “ssh root@(ipadress)” it still asks for a root password which I do not have.

Thank you

As indicated in the CoreOS documentation and in the tutorials on DigitalOcean, the user you should be using is not ‘root’ but 'core’.

ssh -i ssh-private-key core@ip.address

Hello, there

As per the other comments, the user should be “core"and not "root”

You can ssh to the droplet with the following command:

  • ssh core@DropletIP

If you want to specify the ssh-key you can also use the -iargument:

  • ssh -i ~/.ssh/ssh-key core@DropletIP
