Could not chdir to home directory /home/username

Posted on March 14, 2017

I created the user by the next command: useradd username, then set password for it. But when I login to the system, I see the next message: “could not chdir to home directory /home/username no such file or directory”.

What does it mean? Moreover I cannot use the history command and also cannot edit bashsrc file for this user.

How can I solve the problem?

Delete the user using deluser and then use adduser instead.
