Create a droplet from backup not allowing select any region

Posted August 24, 2021 206 views

I destroyed a droplet accidentally, and I want to create it from a backup, but when i want to select the region (SFO1), it is not available (any region). My droplet was an ubuntu 18.04 1vcpu 2GB RAM.

I need to recover my droplet from the backup!

Hello, @migueldd2bd3e92

To use a backup as the base image for a new Droplet, from the control panel, click the name of the Droplet with the backup you want to use, then click Backups.

In the Droplet backups section, open the More menu of the backup you want to use and choose Create Droplet.

This brings you to the Droplet create screen with the image for that backup selected. Choose the rest of the Droplet options, then click Create.

You can follow our tutorial on how to restore a droplet from backups here:

If you’re still unable to select any region within the create droplet page, please reach out to our support team and they will assist you with this issue.

  • Create new droplet and choosing the backup, the regions are disabled. I could not restore because the droplet was not found (obviously, it was deleted).

I think that the problem is because the backup must be created in the same region (SFO1) it was created originally, and this region is limited (limited capacity, restricted to users with existing resources only).

I can create a new droplet (no backup) with the same ubuntu version, cpu ram and disk. But not on the same region (SFO1), i can create it on SFO3. But I need the backup.

    • Just for keeping this info to others who may need it.

I created a support ticket, and they told me the backups are deleted when the droplet is deleted. I did not created a snapshot, so i was not able to restore the backup.

But, support did discover that my droplet was scheduled for delete and they created the snapshot from the backup for me.

This way i could create a new droplet from this snapshot, but first i needed to move/add the snapshot to SFO3 region because SFO1 was limited.

      Thanks everyone!
