Default “Welcome to nginx“ page displayed instead of Matrix Synapse web client interface !

Synapse homeserver installation was achieved with test domain name and environnement (remote VPS), following D.O tutorial. Steps including NGINX CONFIGURATION were done **as root **(step 5 was skipped for now) :

However I can’t prevent Nginx displaying default 'WeLCOME TO NGINX‘ page as result for calling URL ‘‘ (I faced the same issue earlier while trying to install Synapse homeserver on OS Ubuntu 18.04), although the installation was achieved without bugs.

Please see lists of additional steps I have done trying to solve this issue :
• I did remove ‘/ect/nginx/sites-enabled/default‘ file and get nginx successfully restarted behind • I gave full permissions over ‘/html/index.nginx-debian‘ folder and file • I did verify DNS Zone : ‘A‘ entries pointing to IPV4 VPS address for both ‘‘ and ‘‘ • I did verify syntax error with command ‘sudo nginx -t‘ (none was found) • I did verify Vhost config file :

server { listen 80; listen [::]:80;

root /var/www/html;
index index.html index.htm index.nginx-debian.html;

location /_matrix {
    proxy_pass http://localhost:8008;

location ~ /.well-known {
    allow all;

Any help would be well appreciated ! Please let me know if some file content screenshots could help tracking what may have gone wrong !

You are seeing the Default Nginx page as this is what you have in the index.nginx-debian.html file in your /var/www/html folder. If you remove this file and upload your own index.html file you would then see the content of this new index file.

With the current setup only the requests made to would connect to Synaps.

Hope that this helps! Regards, Bobby
