Digital Ocean Spaces CDN serve default on 404

Posted on July 14, 2021

I am using Spaces CDN for our website, but there seems to be no way to set a default image that will be served when a request to an image results in a 404. Is there a way to do this (without polling the Spaces first to check if an image exists there)?

So, for example, i request an image xxx.ams3.digitaloceanspaces.com/some-image-that-does-not-exist.png

I would like to be able to set a default image that would be served instead. I have seen other CDN’s that offer that ability.

Hey @CryptoArchive,

I don’t think that this is natively supported by the Spaces yet. But it is a great idea, sounds like it’d be super useful.

The best thing to do to get your voice heard regarding this would be to head over to our Product Ideas board and post a new idea, including as much information as possible for what you’d like to see implemented.

Alternatively, you could add an Nginx service in front of your Space and use it as a reverse proxy so that you could have full control over the error pages.

Hope that helps! - Bobby.

It’s unbelievable that this hasn’t been implemented yet.
